In 2010, I was your average university student with a secret I wanted to talk about. I really wanted to talk about mental illness and help create a better system.
When I think about mental health and wellness on university campuses, I automatically think about the lack of relevant resources available. I think about how long the wait is to see a counsellor, wellness activities that conflict with my class schedule, and academic stress that reduces my time for wellness strategies.
I am a University of Waterloo Co-op student and for the last 4 months, I have worked with mindyourmind as the Marketing and Innovation Assistant. Specifically, I was part of a lot of the promotion for our upcoming project, Be Change.
When I was placed with mindyourmind for my practicum, I was very excited to be working with an organization that focuses on wellness initiatives. As a student in the Media & Public Interest program at Western University, I spend much of my school time learning about the media’s role in issues of public and social interest. Mental health and wellness plays into a large part of what I study and what I’m interested in learning more about.
What is Be Change?
You are a young person who has an amazing idea about how to improve wellness in your community.
